GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It is a data representation
of a graphics image in binary form. GIF files can be put on the background
of your workstations or PC's or viewed in a separate window. It records up
to 256 colors, and it offers a very good data compression without losing
the picture quality when viewing.
In order to view GIF picture files, one must have a picture viewer software
which supports GIF format.
