* ... Now to the last question: does EDTA consistently pull out mercury? If it does, then what the EDTA test told me was that I really do have very low levels of mercury in my body. That is a different conclusion from, I don't excrete mercury well. That doesn't mean the mercury in me wasn't the cause of my colitis. It could mean that all the Vit C I've been taking chelated the dickens out of the mercury that had built up prior to filling removal. It could mean that I am extremely sensitive to mercury, even if my mercury load is low. Warning: I wouldn't do EDTA chelation today. The U of Kentucky has done a study on brain tissues and discovered that EDTA with mercury inhibits a necessary biochemical reaction in the brain.

According to the references I have, EDTA is VERY UNEFFECTIVE chelator for mercury. Though, it does pull a whole lot of other metals out also. EDTA is more like an "all-around" or general chelator, being not very specific even to lead that it was used for ... I think EDTA is something that was invented to enable Gas Warfare without killing the soldiers in 30's Europe ...

Later, as I have mentioned before, UK came up with BAL (alcohol version of DMPS, no good at all...) then Chinese/Russians modified the BAL with sulfonate to be water soluble, creating DMPS, and then I don't know whom actually invented DMSA, which is a little safer in my opinion.

Now, EDTA does NOT contain thiols, so it is not very mercury/lead/arsenic specific, as those elements have very high affinity coeffient to thiols, especially mercury. DMPS/DMSA were also developed also for protection of soldiers whom applied nerve-gas, as nerve-gas contains arsenic, and the fact that arsenic behaves very similarly binding to thiols like mercury, is the only reason that we have any mercury chelators at all. Aposhian states that fact in his IAOMT lecture very well. So, if one is interested of mercury, only DMPS and DMSA can bring out any creditable results, and even those just pull mostly the extracellular metal.

There is a video-tape from Md Klinghardt, where it is also stated that the first time, even DMPS does not bring out much mercury as other metals like copper come out first even with DMPS. DMPS brings mostly out copper, zinc, mercury, arsenic and lead, but is less aggressive on zinv etc compared to EDTA, but is more potent for MERCURY.

Dr. K states that most often he sees higher/highest MERCURY excretion during 2-4th chelations, and most copper coming out on the first, with fairly low mercury. Also, as only methid for getting mercury out with subsequent chelations is diffusion/equalisation from higher potentials to lower, it takes time, and the levels may not be huge even with DMPS or DMSA, but possibly a 20 year half-time in nerves may be reduced to 2-3 years with DMSA according to some abstracts I found about lead poisoning and it's LONG TERM treatment with DMSA. No really cool results are to be expected with just 1-2 DMSA or DMPS treatments. It is not the way it is to be done.

Normally, US authors have done 3-6 months treatments with daily 400 mg oral, and some other treatments continued even for several years with lead, and it took in one case 3 years with continued DMSA to bring good results. If one is truly very poisoned, no POSITIVE miracles are to happen generally +from just one shot or few oral capsules.
