So I have been shopping, and although I don't have the thousands of $$
to buy a really nice saw like the Delta Unisaw, I have been looking
really hard at the Grizzly... ~$380, and its a cabinet saw (!) with
what looks like a pretty decent fence system. (anybody have one? care
to comment?)
I have the low priced Grizzly and I like it. Be aware that shipping
is substantial for the 250# saw. I paid $75 for FOB from PA to MA.
I believe the Grizzly to be a reasonable Delta Contractor Saw equivalent,
some on the net might disagree. With the price pressures you can
often get the Delta for about $570.
Anyway, the only problem I could see (? by reading the literature) was
that it doesn't cut dado's greater then 5/8"... which I thought was
strange since just about every other saw will cut dado's through to
about 13/16". (Anybody know why?) Obviously, a 3/4" dado would be
pretty common for joining standard (dimensioned S4S) lumber.
The limit is the arbor length. I don't have the specs with me, so
I can't comment. But larger dados can always be done in two passes.
If I we to choose between the two you listed, I think I'd stick with
the delta. I too felt that the plastic pieces on the Ryobi looked
pretty cheesy.
I've seen the new Ryobi and feel that it would have been a contender
for me if it had been available when I was shopping for a table saw.
