In relation to the problem of dust, I think there are some some simple
low tech solutions that are adequate for the home shop user. To wit:
Simply keeping the mess down by attaching the shop vac to problematic
machines--jointer, table saw, etc. As for filtering the <10 micron
particles, why try the inefficient approach of filtering *all* your
shop air to such a high standard of cleanliness? It's much simpler
to buy a good quality mask (i.e., with OSHA or Mine Safety.. approval)
and just filter the air you breathe.
Incidentally, Fine Woodworking had a nice piece on airborne bio-hazards
in the shop. I think it was about 6 months ago.
