Notes on Installation
=====================
Shipping
--------
When transporting or shipping a drive, a SAMSUNG-approved container
must be used. Keep your original box. Shipping a drive in a non-
approved container will void the drive warranty.
Samsung recommends shipping by an air-ride carrier experienced in
handling computer equipment.
Environment
-----------
- Avoid excessive humidity and temperature.
- Do not place near a magnet.
- Samsung Hard Disk Drives do not require Low level Format because Samsung Drives have been formatted before shipping in the factory.
- The head/disk assembly is sealed and does not contain any user- serviceable components. Tampering with the warranty label will void the warranty.
Warranty
--------
The terms of your warranty are determined by your authorized Samsung
Distributor or Dealer. Warranties do not extend to the data stored
on Drives.
Installing your Hard Disk Drive
-------------------------------
1. Turn off the system power.
2. Remove the cover of your computer according to the instructions
in your system manual.
3. Master/Slave configuration.
4. Most interface cables have a red stripe on one side to designate
Pin 1. Make sure Pin 1 at the cable connector is aligned to Pin 1
at the drive connector and Pin 1 at the motherboard or interface
host adapter connector. The maximum cable length is 18 inches
(0.46m, ATA Rev. 3.0).
5. Connect the power cable to the drive 4-pin power connector.
Make sure the connector is fully seated.
6. When the interface cable, power cable are firmly seated, secure
the drive in the mounting slot. Use the six #32 UNC screws that
came yith your SAMSUNG drive. To prevent DAMAGE to the printed
circuit board assembly, do not over tighten the UNC screws.

System startup and operation
----------------------------
1. Turn on the system power.
2. Run the SETUP program.
Use a system utility, such as SETUP, to enter the drive configuration
into the system CMOS. If the CMOS setup utility does not offer our
drive's configuration and does not support "user defined" drive type,
select a drive type with a capacity less than or equal to the
capacity given in the specification. BIOS in present systems may be
limited to maximum of 1024 cylinders. So SHD-30560A has two
configurations.
The BIOS in most systems limits disk drives to 1024 cylinders. If you
are going to install the SHD-30560A with the default configuration,
your system should be able to support more than 528MB IDE drive. A
BIOS or a device driver is required to overcome the limit of
conventional BIOS. Refer to your system manual. If your system cannot
recognize this disk size, install the DCF jumper and perform a high-
level format again. Your system should than recognize the disk size
as approximately 528MB.
3. Formatting the drive.
SAMSUNG low-level formats all AT interface drives at the factory. It
is not necessary to do a low-level format again.
CAUTION
If you partition or format a drive at any level, you lose all of
data. BACKUP the drive first. SAMSUNG assumes no liability for lost
user data.
