Jumper Setting
==============

There are two switches on the main circuit board of this drive.

         +-+-+-+-+-+------- Termination Switch

To provide termination for the last unit, al switches of SW1 should
be set in the ON position. On all other units, all the switches of
SW1 should be set in the OFF position.

Radial option
-------------
On leaving the factory, the switch marked "R" of SW2 is set in the
ON position ... lever up and the transfer of control signals to and
from the drive is enabled only when the address of DRIVE SELECT 1, 2,
3, or 4 matches the drive address (daisy-chain operation) defined by
the drive select signal from the controller.

When this switch is in th eOFF position ... lever down, the transfer
of control signals is enabled regardless of the DRIVE SELECT signal
(radial operation).

When the "R" option is used, the "Drive Selected" indicator lamp on
the front of the drive does not light. To make this lamp light, a
DRIVE SELECT signal shall be applied.

When installing the drive in its final location, particular attention
must be paid to the following points.

 1. Ventilation, adequate ventilation must be provided to allow any
    heat generated to dissipate.
Cooling air is recommended for 6 cfm.

2. Serviceability

 3. The drive must be installed so as to put no under strain on the
    units frame.

Features

MITSUBI. MR533/MR535 PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

General Description
-------------------
These highly-reliable fixed disk drives contain 5-25" fixed disks and
have been designed and manufactured to the same external dimensions
as a 5.25" half height mini felxible disk drive. The MR53X series
provides large capacity and high speed, up to 50.55 MB and a seek
time of 28 ms, in a small compact drive. The series employs many
aspects of "Winchester" technology such as the disk, head, shield
enclosure, and a clean air circulation system. To achieve accurate
positioning a servo system controlled by a microprocessor is
utilized.

 Key Features
 - Half Height 5.25" Winchester disk drive
 - MnZn ferrite Monolithic heads using Whitney mounting
 - Dedicated servo system
 - Voice coil motor
 - Low dust level enclosure with air circulation system
 - Simple electronics on one printed circuit board with customized
   LSI's
 - Dedicated head landing/shipping zones are provided for greater data
   protection.

 Seek Time
 ---------
       +----------------------------------+--------+
       |Track-to-Track msec. typ. | 6 |
       +----------------------------------+--------+
       |Average msec. typ. | 28 |
       | msec. max. | 52 |
       +----------------------------------+--------+
       |Latency msec. avg. | 8.33 |
       +----------------------------------+--------+

 Write Precompensation
 ---------------------
When a particular data pattern is written, bit shifting due to the
super-position of the magnetization patterns of adjacent bits can
occur, causing errors. Precompensation is used to prevent this. With
this precompensation, when data is written, the write timing is
switched beforehand to the opposite direction of the data-shift
direction. The duration of the timing for nominal bit position is -
12 ns (early) or +12 ns (late).

In order to provide for a satisfactorily lower error rate for the
drive, the host-system timing for MFM write data may be pre-compen-
sated at all tracks.

Air Filtration
--------------
Elimination rate of better than 99.97% for dust particles of greater
than 0.3 m. Effects of changes in altitude, atmospheric pressure, and
temperature are eliminated by using a breather filter. Maintenance of
the main filter is unnecessary.

Positioning method
------------------
Voice coil motor positioning using a dedicated servo platter.

Media defects
-------------
Less than 10 in a disk surface
Less than 1 in 1 MBytes of the Drive
No defects on Zero cylinder
