===============
Drive Selected Signal
---------------------
Control of DRIVE SELECTED Signal .... Key 1 in SW1
"ON" side ... A drive is in a selecded state regardless of DRIVE
SELECT 1 4, which means DRIVE SELECTED signal is
always true ans all Input/Output signals are validated
without selecting the drive.
"OFF" side .. Drive Selected signal gets true and all Input/Output
signals are validated only when a drive is selected
with DRIVE SELECT 1 4.
Drive Selection --------------- DRIVE SELECTION ..... Key 4 Key 7 in SW1 Key 4 7 in SW1 are used to one logical number up to a maximum of 4 drives. The relevant one of 4 keys is to turned "ON" while the others should be turned "OFF".

Input Control signal termination
--------------------------------
Input control signals onto the A cable of the interface are
terminated by setting switch 4.
All keys of SW4 on the last drive are to be turned ON while the other
drive's SW4 must be turned OFF in a daisy chain connection.

The unit may be installed as figure above.
In this case, installation horizontal rate shall be within 20
degrees. However, when inclines as the disk side comes lower side
installation horizontal rate shall be within 5 degrees.
Never install PCA on the Top !!!
Ambient temperature
-------------------
The operating temperature range of the drive is specified at a dis-
tance of 3 cm from the drive.
Multiple units connection -------------------------- +-------------+ A cable +--------------+ | +----------*---+ Drive 1 | | +----------+---+ | | | B cable | +--------------+ | | *---+ Drive 2 | | +----------+---+ | | Controller | B cable | +--------------+ | | *---+ Drive 3 | | +----------+---+ | | | B cable | +--------------+ | | +---XX Terminator | | +--------------+ Drive 4 | | | B cable +--------------+ | | +-------------+
Connection of units to its controller is shown in that Fiugre. The
cable A (control signals) must be connected in series and the B
cable (R/W signals) in parallel. The termination of control signal
must be performed only at the last drive.
The total control cable length in a multi-drive configuration should
not exceed 6m.

AC line noise
-------------
To eliminate AC line noise, a noise filter of the specifications
given below should be incorporated in the AC input terminal of the
disk drive power supply.
Attenuation characteristic: 40 dB or greater at 10MHz
Circuit configuration: T type

Media error
-----------
Cylinder 0, Head 0 and 1 are defect free.
The number of defect in the M223XAT are as follows:
M2230AT ..... max. 6 M2233AT ..... max. 12
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
---------------------------------
The estimated MTBF of this drive during its life time is 10,000
hours.
Mean Time To Repair
-------------------
MTTR is the average time taken by well-trained service mechanic to
diagnose and repair a unit malfunction. The M223XAT is designed for a
MTTR of 30 minutes or less.
Service life
------------
Overhaul of the M223XAT is not required for the first five year.
Power loss
----------
Integrity of the data on the disk is guranted against all froms of
abnormal DC power failure except a power failure during writing.
Write Precompensation
---------------------
Whenever two bits are written in close proximity to each other, a
phenomenon called pulse superposition occurs, which tends to cause
the two bits to move away from each other. This is a large factor
contributing to bit shift.
The effect of bit shift can be reduced by a technique called pre-
compensation which, by detecting which bits will occur early and
which bits will occur late, can effectivly minimize the shift by
writing these bits in the opposite direction of the expected shift.
Precompensation should be done at 128 319 cylinders, but may be
done at all cylinders. The optimum amount of pre-compenation is 12
nanseconds for both early and late written bits.
