I have a motor laying around that I'm thinking of using for a disc
sander. It's a 220V/50Hz motor rated at 1/4 hp. It runs at 1425 rpm
at 50Hz, though I'll be using 60Hz, so it'll be running at about 1710
rpm. I don't plan on doing any heavy duty stuff with it, but I have
some questions.
Do you think 1/4 hp is too whimpy for a light duty disc sander?
Is 1710 rpm fast enough?
What size wheel would you recommend? (I'd like to at least be able to
finish up the end of a 2x4 on occassion.)
I would appreciate any other recommendations or considerations regarding
building this thing.
