I have the square base model. I believe the rational is that the
square base works better on framing wood stock (2x4s, etc.).
I originally purchased mine to do decorative edge routing for a
redwood patio and deck. It's worked fine.
The main problem I have faced is that I have not found any standard
router tables that will except it's square base dimensions.
There may be some custom-built tables available, but for the $$$,
you might as well buy a [Grizzly, etc.] shaper.
