I have the ryobi jointer, largely for the same reason you are considering
one. Small shop.
Good points:
Glass smooth cut.
High speed (2 blades, 16k rpm)
Small
Good dust extraction
Bad points:
Short
Small
Doesn't look like it will rabbit easily (at all?)
The "table extensions" ($50 @ trendlines) are a set of infeed and outfeed
rollers. If you look at the in and out feed tables, there are two threaded
holes near the end of each. A support arm attaches to each of these and
holds the roller about a foot or so from the end of the table. The roller
also has a vertical (angled?) support to keep it from drooping.
I thought $50 was a bit high. I am planning on extending, at least the
outfeed table, about a foot with a piece of 6" aluminum channel that
I have lying around. When I finally get around to this project, I'll
post something covering the results.
