I have just purchased a 12" Delta planer and so far I am very happy with
it. It worked right out of the box without any fussing around or
anything. The finish is nice and smooth, and the machine runs reasonably
quiet. The only thing that I found that I didn't care for, and I guess
that I should have known better, was that it leaves about a 2" snipe at
each end of the board. I guess that most of the ones under $500 will do
that.
I ordered mine through a mail order house in Minneapolis, Minnesota for
$398, but I have seen that model advertised in many catalogs for between
$385 and $400.
